JADE PLANT
Crassula ovata, commonly known as the jade plant, is a slow-growing and low-maintenance houseplant often regarded as a symbol of good luck. It is also known as the friendship tree, lucky plant, or money plant. A popular gift for housewarmings and other celebrations, the jade plant represents growth, renewal, and prosperity. With its thick, woody stems and oval-shaped leaves, the jade plant has a miniature, tree-like appearance that makes it a charming decorative houseplant. Jade plants can live for many years—sometimes passed down through generations—and may grow up to three feet tall indoors.
PLANT CARE TIPS
Watering
Water jade plants infrequently. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings to avoid root rot. In winter months, reduce watering even further.
Lighting
Provide bright, indirect sunlight. Jade plants thrive near south- or west-facing windows. Too little light can lead to leggy growth.
Heat & Humidity
Jade plants prefer temperatures between 65–75°F (18–24°C). They tolerate average home humidity levels and should be kept away from cold drafts or sudden temperature drops.
Soil Medium
Use a well-draining succulent or cactus mix. Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot.
Additional Tips
- Fertilize sparingly—only during the growing season (spring and summer).
- Repot every 2–3 years or when rootbound.
- Wipe leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and allow better photosynthesis.
- Check for pests like mealybugs and treat promptly if needed.
